The Walden trail system (recently changed from Naughton)  just west of Sudbury, is the most established set of ski loops in the area.

A well-used set of Nordic trails with plenty of variety and many separate snowshoe tracks too.

The area is scenic and has a few lookouts on the backside of the hill loops.

Beautiful white birch trees are everywhere with rock outcrops on the top of the hill offering a view if you can hike to them (when the snow is not too deep).

The paths are wide and corners are gradual for beginners and skate skiers.

This trail system has two distinct sections, the easy flat loops at the base of the hill beyond the clubhouse and then the hilly loops on the north mound.

There is an even split for all skill levels for Nordic skiers to find plenty of enjoyment for a day’s outing. Night skiing is offered till 9 pm weeknights on 3 km of the easy trails.

There are many snowshoeing trails with quite a few kilometres – 10 km.

Likely too much to do in one visit. I would suggest the hill trails for more of a challenge and the nice views.
