Directions – from Toronto head up Hwy 11,  just north of Huntsville, past Hwy 60 to the next turn off 226, taking Muskoka Rd. 3 briefly, then left on Arrowhead Park Rd. for a few minutes. Passes at gate house then drive down hill to lake and park.

Arrowhead Provincial Park has long been a favourite to skiers willing to drive to Huntsville. You’re guaranteed snow there and great Nordic skiing.

Every level can find a trail to suit and some fresh air amongst the trees.

The main gate house at the top of the hill has all your rental and waxing needs plus snacks.

On a sunny day this is a beautiful place to cross-country ski around the lake, even when it’s chilly and the winds are low.

Grooming is adequate and track conditions never too icy. The easy course (green on the map) is among the trees on the old flood plains of the river.

Trails are not patrolled and if you head out to the back loops it gets lonely out there like on the Beaver Meadow. So be ready, and keep an eye on the time. It gets dark early.

Cross Country skis, sit-skis, snowshoes, sledge and ice skate can be rented at this park.

Snowshoers have a few nice loops to hike through. A walk by Mayflower Lake and some hills will spice things up.

Beyond this you can bushwalk the numerous closed campgrounds and beyond.

The newest addition is an Ice Skating trail loop around the campground, amongst the trees.

This has become a popular, trendy fun thing to do lately. I saw many skaters enjoying this activity.
